LaDonna Rose Gundersen and her husband, Ole Gundersen, are a Ketchikan, Alaska–based husband-and-wife team whose work brings together commercial fishing, seafood education, and Alaska storytelling. Each summer, they work side by side in Southeast Alaska as commercial salmon fishermen, operating a small family-run fishing operation and managing everything from deck work to onboard galley duties.
Their work is distinctive for its ability to bridge commercial fishing with public advocacy for wild Alaska seafood.
LaDonna is also an accomplished author of Alaskan cookbooks, including My Tiny Alaskan Oven and The Little Alaskan Salmon Cookbook, developed from real-life experience cooking in a compact boat galley and focused on practical, flavorful, authentically Alaskan recipes.
Ole complements this work as a seasoned commercial fisherman and recognized photographer, capturing Alaska’s landscapes and working waterfronts through published imagery and fine-art prints.
Together, they created Alaska Cruise Gear, a resource-rich website for cruise travelers featuring packing guidance, product insights, and local perspective, anchored by their Your Alaska Cruise Gear Checklist, a practical tool designed to help visitors pack efficiently and travel confidently in Alaska’s fast-changing conditions.
